The picturesque Allgäu pre-alpine region around Füssen is characterised by magnificent mountains such as the impressive Säuling, which cannot be missed with its striking silhouette reminiscent of a pyramid and is considered the landmark of the entire region. In addition to peaks that are reserved for experienced mountaineers, there also are excursion mountains around Füssen that are accessible by cable cars and offer nature enjoyment and leisure fun for young and old. We present attractive destinations for your personal mountain adventure in more detail.

Tegelberg in Schwangau

Only a few kilometres from Füssen, in the immediate vicinity of the royal castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau, lies the 1881-metre-high Tegelberg, which is accessed by the cable car of the same name and is a popular leisure destination. The summer toboggan run and the large adventure playground at the valley station of the Tegelberg cable car are great for families with children. The adults can also enjoy themselves in a cosy beer garden while supervising the lively activities of the little ones.

If you like, you can take the cable car up to the top station at an altitude of 1720 metres, where you will find the Tegelberghaus and a panoramic restaurant.

Numerous hiking trails for every level lead from here into the natural paradise of the Ammer Mountains. The ascent can also be made on foot instead of by cable car along several charming paths. In winter, the Tegelberg is transformed into a skiing area with varied pistes and cross-country trails as well as a fun park for snowboarders. In any case, this mountain is worth a trip at any time of year.

Breitenberg near Pfronten

Whether hiking, mountaineering, mountain bike tours or hang gliding and paragliding: The 1838-metre-high Breitenberg near Pfronten also has plenty of recreational fun in store. It is accessed by the Breitenberg cable car, which transports its guests to the mountain station at 1501 metres above sea level.

Those who wish can also climb the mountain on foot during a longer hike. From the mountain station, which also is the starting point for an ascent of the Aggenstein, it takes about three quarters of an hour to walk to the summit, where the Ostlerhütte invites you to stop for a bite to eat.

From its sun terrace, you can enjoy a fantastic view of the Allgäu, Tyrolean and Swiss mountains. The Breitenberg is also popular with paragliders, who find four launch sites here. In the winter, the Breitenberg is home to a family-friendly ski area with varied pistes and cross-country trails.

The Buchenberg near Buching

Another beautiful excursion mountain is the 1142-metre-high Buchenberg near Buching, which is also served by a cable car. Instead of taking the cable car, however, you can also climb this mountain on an easy, approximately two-hour hike on the culture trail, which leads across meadows and through shady forest and offers wonderful views.

The Buchenberg Alm is located on the summit of the Buchenberg and spoils its guests with delicious specialities from the Allgäu region, which can be enjoyed here with the great view from the sun terrace.

The hut has a large playground and next door there is a launch site for hang gliders and paragliders. The Buchenberg also is home to a small but nice ski area in the winter.
