On the way, you can look forward to fantastic panoramas and views of the royal castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau, whose builders, Kings Ludwig II and Maximilian II, themselves enjoyed hiking in the region in the 19th century. Around the Hopfensee
The approx. 7-kilometre circuit around the picturesque Hopfensee is easy and therefore also suitable for hiking beginners and families with children. At Hopfensee, you can expect a varied natural environment, grandiose mountain panoramas and an Italian-like flair, which is why the lakeside promenade of the spa town of Hopfen is also called the “Riviera of the Allgäu”. In summer, the hike can be combined with swimming fun in the open-air swimming pool at Hopfensee ideally.
On the way, you will pass several Kneipp facilities that invite you to wellness in harmony with nature. The starting and finishing point of the well-signposted Hopfensee circular trail is the Tourist Information Centre in the town of Hopfen am See, which is part of Füssen. You will find refreshment stops along the waterfront.
Alpine Hike to the Buchenberg Alm
This varied alpine pasture hike in the Ammergau Alps Nature Park offers you magnificent views of the vast foothills of the Alps and, as a highlight, a stop at the rustic Buchenberg Alm, which serves delicious Allgäu specialities. The 3.5km long tour, which is also suitable for families with children, starts at the valley station of the Buchenberg cable car and leads up the mountain on the Kulturenweg.
You hike through lush green alpine meadows and shady little forests while enjoying the soothing mountain air and views along the way. At the alp, situated at 1140 metres above sea level on the Buchenberg, there is also a children's playground where the little ones can let off steam. If you don't want to hike back, you can take the Buchenberg cable car back down to the valley.
King Ludwig Route: Stage Füssen – Hohenschwangau
Get a taste of the popular King Ludwig Route during your holiday in Füssen and combine hiking fun with sightseeing. The approx. 6km long stage of the 120km long theme trail leads from the Tourist Information Füssen through the old town of Füssen to the Lech and then up to the Kalvarienberg. There, a viewing platform grants you a dreamlike panoramic view of the region. You then continue your hike towards the royal castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau, which stand in the idyllic mountain landscape in Hohenschwangau.
