A Nice Bike Tour to Get to Know the Area

A wonderful tour to get to know the area is the approximately 30-kilometre loop around the Forggensee, the largest lake in the Allgäu. Accompanied by omnipresent dream views of the mountains, you cycle from the Füssen boat harbour around the Lech reservoir clockwise, which only reaches its full water level in summer.

The well-signposted tour does not always lead directly along the shore, but also through some dreamy hamlets and rural sections.

Between June and mid-October, you can also combine the tour with a boat trip on Lake Forggensee: Two passenger boats will then operate on the lake several times a day, making various stops and also transporting bicycles. The lap of the Forggenssee impressively illustrates the beauty of the region and offers around 2 hours of cycling pleasure at its best.

In the Footsteps of Knights and Damsels

You will pass no less than four charming castle ruins on the approx. 44km long castle tour to the Schlossbergalm, which starts at the Tourist Information Füssen. From here, it goes via Bad Faulenbach to the mysterious Alatsee and over the border to the Tyrolean village of Vils, where the Vilsegg castle ruins are located. You then cycle along the Zirmenweg past the ruins of Falkenstein Castle, which already impressed King Ludwig II, to Pfronten. Here, you continue to the Schlossbergalm in Zell, before driving to Hopferried via Eisenberg, where the ruins of Eisenberg and Hohenfreyberg castles await, as well as Speiden and Unterreuten.

The last part of the route takes you to Lake Weissensee and back to the starting point. For a snack in between, the panorama terrace of the Schlossbergalm is ideal. In Zell, it is also worth visiting the castle museum, which provides exciting background information on the various castle ruins.
